Uncrowded! Wild-open spaces! Curving scenic byways! What’s not to love?
Much needed downtime was in order for us after all the hubbub of Sturgis. And what better place than to explore the mighty Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming.
And while our choice of a campsite wasn’t exactly what we had in mind, the riding more than made up for its lack of solitude that we were craving.
First ride up was US-14 with its panoramic views and endless miles of wide-open spaces traversed by only a few brave folks - making you feel as though you have the whole place to yourself. The icing on the cake was a stop at Shell Falls – a 120-foot waterfalls that gushes 3,600 gallons of water per second.
And not to be outdone was Cloud Peak Scenic Byway, aka Highway 16, aka “The Sweet 16”. Any road with that name has got to be good and we weren’t disappointed. This route takes you through the Bighorn National Forest and into curvy Ten Sleep Canyon.
